Exam 1 Instructions

Exam 1 will have 2 parts.

Part 1 will be a take-home assignment consisting of two problems. To make it difficult for people who prefer to avoid learning and want someone else do their work for them, I’ve generate different data sets for each student and I can’t post them all here without creating a complicated mess. I will hand out Part 1 problems in class on Tuesday. But, if you want to get a head start, please email me at [email protected] or leave a comment on this post or send me a message using the contact form below. In return I will send you two PDF files with your required take-home problems and corresponding data.

Part 1 will be due in class on Thu, Feb 2.

Part 2 will be a more traditional, in-class exam. The problems presented may be related in some way to the problems you will solve for Part 1 (so it’s really important for you to understand the Part 1 problems and solutions). There may also be unrelated problems for you to solve.

Part 2, the in-class exam, will take place during class on Thu, Feb 2.

Our class time on Tue, Jan 31 will be devoted to answering questions about Part 1 and reviewing materials for Part 2. Please come prepared with questions to clarify any uncertainties.

Justin Holman is CEO of Aftermarket Analytics, where he leads efforts to develop cutting edge sales forecasting and inventory optimization technology for the Automotive Aftermarket. Prior to joining Aftermarket Analytics, Justin managed corporate consulting for the Strategy & Analytics division at MapInfo Corporation, leading major projects for retail clients including The Home Depot, Darden Restaurants, Bridgestone-Firestone, Sainsbury’s and New York & Company. Before that, Justin served as Vice President of Software Development at LogicTools, now part of IBM's supply chain application software group. Justin holds a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College, a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon and an Executive Management certificate from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
