Pueblo
I grew up in Pueblo in 1970-1980s and, after a 25-year hiatus, moved back in 2012. I’ve written several posts about Pueblo.
Here are my top Pueblo posts.
- My first post about moving back to Pueblo: Why Pueblo and a more recent follow-up Pueblo’s Four “C” Factors
- My idea for increasing local government funding, later published in the Pueblo Chieftain: Funding the City of Pueblo
- I produced a partition of the Pueblo’s Census Tracts to help refer people to various parts of the city.
- I’ve also written a series about standardized testing in Pueblo public schools where I illustrate the strong correlation between % Free-Reduced Lunch and TCAP test performance and produce my own rankings of test performance for 3rd grade, 7th grade and 10th grade schools in Pueblo D-60 and D-70.

Hi Justin,
I currently live in Chicago and would like to move to Colorado because I love looking at the mountains. Are mountains visible in Pueblo? Can you please email me more updated information about Pueblo (or Colorado towns in general)? I am looking to move there to begin my career as a social worker for immigrants. I would need to live somewhere affordable, but also safe. I read a post you wrote many years ago about Pueblo but would like an update on the town. Also, can you please include the overall political environment of Pueblo? I would also like to move to an area that is overall pretty liberal.
Thank you in advance for your time!
Hi Sarah,
Based on your brief comment I recommend checking out Manitou Springs. Not as affordable as Pueblo but mountain views and liberals are far more plentiful. Plus, you’ll be next door to Colorado Springs where it will be easier to launch a career in social work.
Best wishes,
Justin
